Treatments and Healing Techniques for Breast Cancer

Cancer is a lethal disease, might be the worst nightmare of any doctor. This disease is nothing like your usual common cold that takes just one medicine to go away. Earlier it was a confirmed death situation, but today medical science has developed ways to beat the disease and live happily ever after.
Cancer affects different body parts, one of them is the breast cancer. Usually associated with women, breast cancer is a malignant cancer caused by tumorous development in the inner lining of the milk ducts or the lobules which transfer milk to the ducts.
After the condition has been diagnosed and the type of cancer and stage gets identified, your doctor will construct a treatment plan. This plan will contain everything, every treatment option, dietary assistance, therapies etc. Generally, not relying on just one method, a doctor formulates a plan with multiple therapies aiming to stop multiplying the cancer cells, eradicates the existing cells, and not let them grow again.

Surgery-
Surgery is the most popular and successful treatment option available today. The procedure follows the removal of the affected region or the removal of the entire breast area. The magnitude of this surgery is determined by the cancer stage. Below are the types of surgeries conducted today-
Breast-conserving surgery-
This surgery focuses on removing the affected portion of the breast and not the entire breast. Along with the breast, some healthy tissue is also removed to ensure no cancerous cells are left. This procedure is also called Partial Mastectomy. The operation also follows the removal of the lymph nodes under the armpits for future biopsy.
  • Total Mastectomy-
This form of surgical treatment focuses on the removal of the entire breast along with the lymph nodes. Generally, the surgery is followed by quick delayed breast reconstruction surgery.
  • Modified Radical Mastectomy-
The procedure removes the extensive affected breast tissue along with some lymph nodes and a portion of the chest lining.
  • Radical Mastectomy-
Also known as Halsted Radical Mastectomy, the surgery follows the removal of the entire affected breast, chest wall tissue, and lymph nodes under the arms.
Chemotherapy
This treatment utilizes intense medication to kill off the existing cells and raid their reproducing power to stop future dispersal. This medication could be directed through the bloodstream that disperses through the entire body, this is called systemic chemotherapy. It can also be placed directly into the spine or any other organ which is called regional chemotherapy.
Hormone Therapy
Hormone therapy involves the use of medication to negate the hormones which encourage the growth of cancer cells. Estrogen has been identified to induce the growth of breast cancer cells. The therapy aims to stop the ovaries from producing estrogen hormone. The therapy uses aromatase inhibitor to block the secretion of this chemical.
Radiation Therapy
This therapy uses high-intensity x-rays as an alternative to drugs to damage the cancer cell’s DNA and stop them from further reproduction.
